Message from Governor McKee

In cities and towns across Rhode Island, many members of our community are struggling right now. I want them to know we are here to support you.

My office is coordinating across state government with RI Emergency Management Agency; RI Department of Education; RI Department of Health; RI Department of Behavioral Health, Developmental Disabilities, and Hospitals; RI Department of Children, Youth and Families; the Executive Office of Health and Human Services; and local partners to respond to the tragic shooting at Lynch Arena in Pawtucket. 

With assistance from community agencies such as Family Service of Rhode Island and Tides Family Services, we are also providing assistance and support to impacted municipalities and school districts around the state.  

Below is a series of helpful resources to help Rhode Islanders in all impacted communities navigate this difficult time.

Call 988: If you or someone you love is feeling acute distress or grief, call 988 to be connected with local and national resources as needed. 988 is not only a Suicide and Crisis Lifeline but also a source of support and referrals for people experiencing challenging reactions to disasters.  Learn more: https://988lifeline.org    

Walk-in Centers: Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics (CCBHC) are outpatient clinics prepared to serve anyone who walks through the door, regardless of age, diagnosis, or insurance status. The centers listed below have teams of trained health professionals who can provide mental health and substance use support to you or a loved one, as well as 24/7 crisis support.   

Community-based meetings: Family Service of Rhode Island is working in partnership with a variety of community-based organizations to hold family meetings in communities most impacted by this tragedy. We will post information as it becomes available. Anyone can reach out to Family Service of RI by calling (401) 854-6678 for counseling and support services. School-based supports: The RI Department of Education is working with individual schools and school districts to provide mental health supports to students and their families—including telehealth options. Your local school district may be reaching out with specifics for your community. 

Experiencing Domestic Violence? A statewide 24/7 confidential helpline is available at 1-800-494-8100 if you or someone you know needs support in a domestic violence situation.

Butler Hospital 24/7 Behavioral Health Call Center: Call 1-844-401-0111 for assistance in determining how to access mental health support services. Butler Express Care offers same-day, outpatient behavioral health assessments for adolescents, adults, and older adults. 

Bradley Hospital: Provides a range of family-centered mental health care services to infants, children, adolescents, and young adults with emotional disorders and/or developmental disabilities. Call Bradley’s Access Center at 1-855-543-5465 to get help

The RI Department of Behavioral Health, Developmental Disabilities and Hospitals: The agency has a variety of resources, including mental health resources in your community available at Community Mental Health Centers | Dept. of Behavioral Healthcare, Developmental Disabilities, and Hospitals. 

The RI Department of Children, Youth and Families Family Support Line: 1-888-RI-FAMLY (1-888-743-2659) can assist families in accessing necessary support services. The Rhode Island Department of Children, Youth & Families (DCYF) Support and Response Unit (SRU) is a resource for families who are feeling overwhelmed or need assistance accessing home and community-based services for a variety of needs. DCYF’s Family Care Community Partnerships (FCCPs) are prevention-focused providers bringing community-based services to children and families. 

Parent Support Network: The network provides support groups and resources for parents and caregivers of children with behavioral health issues. Includes support groups, webinars, and resources. Learn more: Supporting Families and Community After Tragedy — Prevent Child Abuse Rhode Island.

Rhode Island Parent Information Network (RIPIN): The RI Department of Health (RIDOH) contracts with the Rhode Island Parent Information Network (RIPIN) for Peer Professional Support Services. 

The RI Crime Victim Compensation Program: This program is available to victims of violent crime and can assist with resources, including monetary relief, coverage of medical bills, loss of earnings, and a host of other services. Victims can apply online at https://treasury.ri.gov/cvcp
