Governor Dan McKee Statement on Roger Williams Medical Center and Our Lady of Fatima Hospital

Published on Tuesday, November 04, 2025

PROVIDENCE, RI — Governor Dan McKee today issued the following statement on Roger Williams Medical Center and Our Lady of Fatima Hospital.

“Our priority is to ensure that Roger Williams Medical Center and Our Lady of Fatima Hospital remain open and operating. These facilities are essential to their communities and to Rhode Island’s health care system as a whole.

The matter is still before the bankruptcy court, and no decision has yet been issued. Our administration opposes any action that would result in the closure of these hospitals.  We have been working closely with the Executive Office of Health and Human Services on contingency plans to protect patient care should all other viable options not materialize. This includes engaging with another potential operator that is currently conducting due diligence, reinforcing our commitment to keeping these hospitals open and serving their communities.

My Executive Office of Health & Human Services Secretary, drawing on his professional experience with local hospitals, reached out to Prime Healthcare to assess their interest in Roger Williams and Fatima should the current proposal not move forward."
