Governor McKee has worked tirelessly to bolster our state's economy and set up Rhode Island for a stronger, more prosperous future. As we continue our momentum, here are some of the key accomplishments Team Rhode Island has made.

Added 37,000+ Private Sector Jobs

RI’s five-year growth rate is nearly double what it was before the pandemic.  

Increased Housing Permits by 150%

Through targeted investments, increased housing permitting by 150% since the start of the McKee administration. 

Delivering $500M in Energy Relief

Eliminating bonus payments for utility shareholders and lowering charges on your bill to deliver relief to ratepayers.    

Cutting The State Tax on Social Security

The Governor’s budget ended the state tax on Social Security for 9,200 eligible early retirees. Next year, he’ll be back before the General Assembly asking to eliminate this tax for good.  

Protecting Affordable Health Coverage

Backfilled expired enhanced Affordable Care Act subsidies, helping keep health coverage affordable for approximately 20,000 Rhode Islanders. 

Created RI’s first Child Tax Credit

The Governor’s budget created a refundable $330 tax credit per child will deliver $47 million in annual tax relief to more than 70,000 families. 

Closing the Student Test Score Gap with Massachusetts

Reduced the gap by 39% in English Language Arts and 29% in math, per RICAS scores. 

Eliminated the Tangible Tax Relief for 75% of Businesses

By establishing a $50,000 exemption, RI wiped out tangible personal property taxes for 75% of businesses. 

Accelerated the Elimination of the Car Tax

The Governor submitted and signed a budget that ended the car tax a year earlier than originally proposed.   

Created the Hope Scholarship at Rhode Island College

This last-dollar tuition scholarship is making four-year degrees possible for many Ocean State juniors and seniors, regardless of income. 

Reduced Overdose Deaths by 50%

Through state-funded education, harm reduction and treatment supports, RI reduced overdose fatalities 50% between 2022 and 2025. 

Launched RI’s First State Low-Income Housing Tax Credit

Supporting the creation of 633 new housing units and the preservation of 131 units so far.

Reduced Student Absenteeism

Launched Attendance Matters RI, driving a 12-percentage-point decline in chronic absenteeism from the height of the pandemic—the equivalent of more than 3.7M additional learning hours. 

Delivered $40 Million in Tax Rebates for RI Families

This $250 rebate per child helped nearly 115,000 Rhode Island families across the state. 

Protected Access to Reproductive Health Care

Signed an executive order protecting access to reproductive health care in RI by shielding patients, providers, and state resources from out-of-state attacks on care that is legal here. 

Launched the Down Payment Assistance Program for First-Time Homebuyers

Helped 1,600 Rhode Islanders buy their first home by offering $17,500 in down payment assistance. 

Opened the Institute of Cybersecurity & Emergency Technologies at RIC

Governor McKee partnered with Congressman Langevin to open RI’s first institute to boost interest in cybersecurity and artificial intelligence. 

Upgraded Rhode Island’s Credit Rating

RI is now rated ‘AA+’ by Fitch, which cited the McKee Administration’s disciplined fiscal management.  

Added Nearly 7,000 State-Funded Housing Units

Since 2021, 6,919 housing units have been completed, preserved or in process. This is in addition to thousands of privately developed units made possible by the Governor's efforts to streamline regulations and sign housing legislation that accelerated construction. 

Protecting Revolution Wind and Local J-O-B-S

1,200 union jobs. Power for 263,000 Rhode Island homes. When President Trump tried to stop Revolution Wind, Governor McKee stood with workers and fought back to protect this project. 

Oversaw $4B in School Construction Funds

To date, this unprecedented investment has positively impacted almost all cities and towns since the start of the McKee Administration.
