Governor McKee and Secretary of Housing Deborah Goddard to Announce Launch of New Statewide Home Repair Program

Published on Thursday, November 13, 2025

PROVIDENCE, RI — Governor Dan McKee and Secretary of Housing Deborah Goddard today announced the launch of the Statewide Home Repair Program, which will officially begin accepting applications on November 15, 2025. The program is supported by $6 million from Rhode Island’s historic $120 million housing bond and aims to provide critical home repair assistance to homeowners and landlords statewide who commit to renting to tenants earning 80% of the Area Median Income (AMI) or below.

“Every Rhode Islander deserves a safe, well-maintained place to live,” said Governor Dan McKee. “Expanding this program statewide reflects my commitment to building and preserving housing that is affordable and accessible in every community. By providing homeowners and landlords the support they need to make essential repairs, we are keeping Rhode Islanders housed and strengthening neighborhoods.”

“Preserving the homes we already have is just as critical as producing new ones,” said Secretary of Housing Deborah Goddard. “The Statewide Home Repair Program will help Rhode Islanders address urgent repairs, maintain safe living conditions, and prevent the loss of affordability that comes when homes fall into disrepair. Preservation is production’s twin, and both are essential to addressing our state’s housing challenges.”

Building on the success of the state’s earlier home repair program, funded with State Fiscal Recovery Funds, this new statewide effort expands support to help more Rhode Islanders preserve their homes and communities.

“Having implemented the initial SFRF-funded home repair program, the Providence Revolving Fund demonstrated the clear demand for expanded housing support across Rhode Island,” said Carrie Zaslow, Executive Director of the Providence Revolving Fund. “Despite the program's limited scope, our work on the ground revealed the significant unmet needs of Rhode Island homeowners and renters. We’re thrilled that the state has decided to use bond funding to expand this effort statewide, bringing much-needed resources to more communities, and we are proud to be at the forefront of ensuring its success.”

“Providence feels the effects of the housing crisis every day, and preserving the housing stock we already have is one of the most effective strategies we can use to keep our neighbors in their homes,” said Mayor Brett P. Smiley.  “All of our neighbors deserve safe, healthy homes, and this program will help them make critical repairs that keep them securely housed. I am grateful to our partners at the state for stepping up with resources that will improve housing stability, protect children from hazards like lead, and support local contractors making a positive impact in our neighborhoods.”

Applications and additional information for the Statewide Home Repair Program will be available on the Providence Revolving Fund’s website at https://www.revolvingfund.org/rihrp. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis.

The launch of the Statewide Home Repair Program builds on the $81 million in housing bond programs announced by Governor McKee last month.
