Governor McKee Announces Resignation of Department of Administration Director

Department of Revenue Director Tom Verdi to Serve as Interim Director of the Department of Administration

PROVIDENCE, RI – Governor Dan McKee today announced that he has requested and received the resignation of Department of Administration Director Jonathan Womer following ongoing operational challenges related to the rollout of the State’s Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system. These operational challenges have raised concerns about the handling of state employees’ personally identifiable information and the overall administration of critical state systems.

“Our employees trust the Department of Administration to handle their pay and personal information with the highest level of care,” said Governor Dan McKee. “This transition is about making sure state government is operating the way our employees and taxpayers expect and deserve.”

Governor McKee also announced that Department of Revenue Director Tom Verdi will serve as Interim Director of the Department of Administration.

Verdi has been leading the Department of Revenue since 2023. He is a 35-year veteran of the Providence Police Department, retiring as Commander and Deputy Chief of Police. From 2006 to 2016, he served on the Rhode Island Parole Board, becoming the first Providence Police Officer to be appointed to the board.

Governor McKee also emphasized his commitment to supporting the state workforce as improvements to the ERP system continue.

“We will continue working urgently to address these operational challenges, support our employees, and ensure the Department of Administration is delivering the reliable services that state government depends on,” Governor McKee added.

Director Womer’s resignation is effective immediately. He will remain available for consultation over the next 60 days to assist with the transition.
