Governor McKee Nominates Bob Rapoza to Rhode Island Board of Elections

Published on Thursday, May 29, 2025

PROVIDENCE, RI — Governor Dan McKee announced today he has nominated Bob Rapoza to serve on the Rhode Island Board of Elections.

“Bob’s experience and understanding of our state’s elections system makes him strong candidate for this role,” said Governor Dan McKee. “Protecting the integrity of our elections is essential to our democracy, and I’m confident Bob’s extensive knowledge of election laws, policies and procedures will help further the Board’s work to build public trust in our electoral process.”

Prior to his retirement in 2024, Rapoza spent nearly three decades working for the Board of Elections in various roles. In his last six years, he served as the Board’s Executive Director of Elections, overseeing all of the state’s 461 voting precincts. In this role, Rapoza was responsible for implementing and reviewing election laws and revisions, managing the Board's assets, submitting the agency’s annual budget, and working with local, state, and federal agencies to ensure election integrity.

Rapoza first started as the Board’s Special Projects Coordinator, where he developed and implemented a plan to use optical scan voting equipment across Rhode Island.

Rapoza graduated from the Community College of Rhode Island with an Associate of Arts and earned both his Associate of Science and Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of New Haven. He became a certified Elections/Registration Administrator through Auburn University in 2005.

“It’s an honor to be nominated by Governor McKee to serve on the Board of Elections. I believe my years of experience and knowledge will bring a unique perspective to the board,” said Rapoza. “Knowing the inner workings of the election process will complement the existing board as together, we will continue the board’s mission for fair, accurate, and efficient elections.”

Rapoza’s name has been submitted to the Rhode Island Senate for advice and consent.
