PROVIDENCE, RI — Governor Dan McKee today announced his nomination of David Barrett to the University of Rhode Island Board of Trustees, replacing a seat vacated by Robert Weygand.

The board governs the university by overseeing its property, finances, policies, and operations. It also manages hiring and employment and ensures accountability to the state and students.

“Dave’s strong commitment to the University of Rhode Island, combined with his extensive professional experience, makes him an outstanding candidate for the board of trustees,” said Governor McKee. “I look forward to watching Dave and the board continue to help build on the university’s excellence and long-term success.”

Barrett is currently a Managing Partner at Polaris Partners, who focuses on investments in health care technology and care delivery.

Barrett holds a B.S. from the University of Rhode Island, where he serves as a member of its Foundation Board of Directors, as an Edwards Society Advisor to the University President, as a member of the Dean’s Advisory Board for the College of Business, and as an advisor to the Director of Athletics. For the past 16 years, Dave has also served on the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute Board of Trustees.

“I want to thank Governor McKee for his nomination to the University of Rhode Island’s Board of Trustees,” said Dave Barrett. “As a proud alumnus of the University, I look forward to the opportunity to serve and support its mission, students, and future growth.”

Barrett’s name has been submitted to the Rhode Island Senate for advice and consent.
