Governor Sabina Matos released the following statement: “September 11th will always be a day of grieving for those lost to a horrific act of terrorism and a time to give our unwavering support to their families and loved ones. It is also a moment for us to honor the selfless American heroes who responded to the tragedy and those who continued to protect our country. We owe these men and women a debt of gratitude that can truly never be repaid. As for the nine Rhode Islanders killed in this tragic moment in our nation's history, we remember all that you were and all that you could have been. You will never be forgotten." Governor McKee has directed U.S. and Rhode Island flags to remain at half-staff at all state facilities and buildings on Wednesday, September 11, 2024. Governor McKee asks Rhode Islanders to lower their flags as a sign of respect.
