Flags to Fly at Half-Staff in Honor of Lives Lost

PROVIDENCE, RI – In recognition of the 24th anniversary of September 11, 2001, Governor Dan McKee and Lt. Governor Sabina Matos released the following statement:

“Rhode Island will never forget the pain, shock, and trauma of the September 11th terrorist attacks on our country. We mourn the loss of those Rhode Islanders taken from us too soon, and we continue to hold the victims and their grieving families and friends in our hearts.

“While we condemn those inhuman acts of terrorism, we also honor the very human heroism of our first responders who risked their lives in service to their fellow Americans. And every day, we thank the brave men and women of our law enforcement and military who work to keep America safe from harm.”

Governor McKee has directed U.S. and Rhode Island flags to remain at half-staff at all state facilities and buildings on Thursday, September 11, 2025. Governor McKee asks Rhode Islanders to lower their flags as a sign of respect.
