Statement from Governor McKee on the 25th Anniversary of September 11, 2001

PROVIDENCE, RI – In recognition of the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001, Governor Dan McKee released the following statement:

“Twenty-five years later, we still remember the Americans whose lives were tragically taken on September 11, 2001, and the families and loved ones who carry that loss with them every single day.

“Rhode Island lost nine of our own that day, a loss that will be felt for generations. We remember their names. We remember their lives: David Lawrence Angell, Carol Marie Bouchard, Mark Lawrence Charette, James Edward Hayden, Amy Nicole Jarret, Kathryn L. Laborie, Shawn M. Nassaney, Renee Tetreault Newell and Jessica Leigh Sachs.

“We also remember the first responders, service members, and everyday Americans who showed extraordinary bravery and compassion in the aftermath. We can never thank them enough.

“September 11 changed our country forever. But it also showed us what we are capable of when we come together. Today, we honor those we lost, stand with the families who feel their absence, and remember the unity that carried this country forward.

We will never forget.”

Governor McKee has directed U.S. and Rhode Island flags to remain at half-staff at all state facilities and buildings on Friday, September 11, 2026. Governor McKee asks Rhode Islanders to lower their flags as a sign of respect.
