Governor McKee Orders Lowering of Flags in Accordance with Presidential Proclamation

Published on Thursday, September 11, 2025

PROVIDENCE, RI — In accordance with a proclamation from President Donald Trump, Governor Dan McKee has ordered United States and Rhode Island flags at all state buildings and facilities to be lowered to half-staff in memory of Charlie Kirk. Flags will remain at half-staff through sunset on Sunday, September 14, 2025.

“Political violence is never the answer. It’s never the way forward. And we must stand together in condemning it,” said Governor Dan McKee. “Susan and I are praying for Charlie's wife, young children, and everyone mourning this horrific and heartbreaking tragedy.”

The Governor announced earlier today that flags were to be lowered in remembrance of the 24th anniversary of the 2001 terrorist attacks.
